Campus Influenza Case Summary

The following is a summary of known/suspected influenza cases* reported on campus since July 2009. This information, compiled weekly, is shared with public health officials in Santa Cruz County and emergency preparedness staff in UC's Office of the President.

* These cases include all influenza-like illness (ILI) — either seasonal or H1N1. Definitive H1N1 testing is currently only performed in cases involving hospitalization.

  • Student Cases include cases seen at the Student Health Center as well as student contacts via the Student Influenza Advice Line and other identified cases (fire/EMS contact, reports by residential staff, etc.)
  • Faculty/Staff Cases include cases reported by units to the campus Emergency Manager and other self-reported cases by faculty/staff.
  • Other Cases include cases reported to the campus Emergency Manager involving non-affiliates on campus (camp program participants, dependent children living on campus, etc.)
